Doug Gottlieb: “The ‘Rich Paul Rule’ is NOT racist, matter of fact, it’s the OPPOSITE of racist. How many stories have we heard about athletes going broke?? Of the college basketball players who will put their name into the Draft, my guess is 85-90% of those athletes are African-Americans. They’re trying to protect them and make sure they make a more informed decision. The NBA Players Association ACTUALLY says you have to have a college degree to be an agent – If you want you can apply for an exemption. To be a certified agent in the NFL, you not only have to have a Bachelor’s degree, you have to have a Master’s AND law degree too. Are they racist too?? Or do they simply want their athletes to be represented by people of higher repute? It’s the OPPOSITE of racism when you’re trying to protect the very people who are trying not to get fleeced." Listen to Doug Gottlieb explain how dumbfounded he is with all the negative publicity and outrage that the NCAA has been met with the last 24 hours after they announced sweeping new rules regarding sports agents that are representing student-athletes preparing for the NBA Draft.
Such rules include:
NBA Players Association certification at least three years old (in consecutive years), completion of an in-person exam administered at the NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis, professional liability insurance, and lastly and most controversially, a Bachelor’s degree.
Gottlieb questions why anyone would called the now-dubbed ‘Rich Paul Rule’ racist, when it was literally made to prevent heavily ignorant and unapprised individuals representing student-athletes about to make the most important financial decisions of their lives.
Check out the audio below as Gottlieb details why this rule is so vital in protecting the PLAYERS, and has nothing to do with Rich Paul.
